We provide different types of healthcare collections. A sharps collection for needles and syringes, and a high grade medical waste collection which would include:
- Blood or other bodily fluids
- Swabs or dressings
A weekly service will collect your healthcare sacks and deliver empty sacks for the following week. We will need to know where you would like them to be collected from, and how many initially you would like. We will continue this service until you tell us it is no longer required.
We will collect or/and deliver a sharps box when you let us know it is required. If your existing box is 3/4 full, or you no longer require the service then let us know and we will collect and replace as required. If this is a new request, or you do not require a replacement then you can let us know on this form.
(Low grade waste which includes incontinence pads, empty stoma bags and non-infectious swabs can be double bagged and placed in your household refuse to be incinerated.)
Purple-lidded containers
Purple-lidded containers are used for cytotoxic waste, which includes substances that require specialist handling. Please note that this type of waste is not included in the council's clinical waste collection service and must not be mixed with other waste types.
What should I do if I have one?
If you've been given a purple-lidded container, please contact the healthcare provider or organisation that supplied it, such as your GP, hospital, or treatment centre for advice on how to dispose of it safely.
